Saudi Arabia announces Eid will begin on Sunday

JEDDAH: Sunday, June 25, is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia, the Supreme Court announced.
Shawwal’s crescent moon was sighted on Saturday evening, which means Eid will start on Sunday.
The Supreme Court earlier called on Muslims in the kingdom to sight the crescent moon on Saturday evening.
Astronomer Khalid Al-Zaaq, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences confirmed in his Twitter account that “Eid begins Sunday
astronomically.” He added that “the astronomical calculations based on followed criteria suggest that Sunday is first day of Eid Al-Fitr."

Eid el-Fitr: FG declares Monday, Tuesday public holiday

The federal government has declared Monday and Tuesday, June 26 and 27, as Public Holiday to mark Eid-el-fitr celebration for the year 2017.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd), who made the declaration on behalf of the federal government on Thursday, enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion of the celebration for sober reflection and pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation in its march to nationhood.

Dambazau further urged all Nigerians to shun hate speeches and divisive tendencies and join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to build a peaceful, strong and united Nigeria.

Daga karshe kwamishiniyar ta roki al'umma da su kasance masu bincike da tabbatar da labari kafin yada shi.

KOGI WEST ELECTORATES SET TO RECALL SEN. DINO MELAYE

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received signatures from the electorates in Kogi West Senatorial District, asking for the recall of Senator Daniel Dino Melaye from the red chamber.

Reports have indicated that, six bags, which contained the signatures of 52.3 percent of the electorates from the zone and other petitions; were submitted to the Commission in Abuja in the mid hours of Wednesday June 21, 2017.

Kogi West, which Melaye represents in the Senate , has seven local governments areas .
Signatures and petitions from each of the local government area were packaged in each of the bags, which were tagged according to the names of the local governments.
The local governments and the percentage of voters who signed the recall petition showed that Yagba West had the highest number of voters asking Melaye to return home from the upper chamber.

The breakdown of the submitted signatures as shown in the petition, is Yagba West , 55.7%; Lokoja , 54.8%; Kogi, 52.77%; Yagba East, 52%; Ijumu (Melaye’s local government), 51.8%; Mopa/Moro, 50.4% and Kabba/Bunu 46.7%.

Meanwhile, Senator Daniel Melaye Dino threatens that his recall will never succeed. Where he claimed that, we have 346,788 registered voters in Kogi West (as at March 28 Presidential/NASS elections)

So, to recall a Kogi West, the requirements is at least one vote above 50% of total registered voters.
50% of total registered voters in Kogi West is 173,394. They need a minimum of 173,395 signatures before INEC can proceed to next step.
